The revolution against the domination of Luong Dynasty completely won. Ly Bon ascended to the throne, proclaimed himself Ly Nam De and set up the capital in Long Bien. According to Dai Viet su ky toan thu, Ly Bon was the first Vietnamese to proclaim himself King naming the country Van Xuan with the hope that the society would be thriving forever.

One of the three heads of the Van Xuan dynasty was Trieu Tuc, father of Trieu Quang Phuc. When Trieu Tuc died in the resistance war against the invaders of Luong Dynasty, Trieu Quang Phuc was then the General who was trusted by Ly Nam De. That young General had joined his father in Ly Bon revolt from the beginning and made glorious deeds, contributing to the establishment of Van Xuan state in year 544.

While the country had just enjoyed short period of peace, in 545, Luong Dynasty again sent the notorious General Tran Ba Tien (who later established the Tran dynasty in China) to bring troops to invade young Van Xuan. The enemy was very strong, Ly Nam De summoned troops to fight the enemy but failed. According to Dai Viet su ky toan thu, Ly Nam De entrusted the army and home affairs to Trieu Quang Phuc and retreated to Cheat Lao Cave in 546.

From here, Trieu Quang Phuc take charge of the noble mission of leading the resistance war against the Northern invaders.

According to old history, when receiving military rights from Ly Nam De, Trieu Quang Phuc faced two huge difficulties. First, up to two-thirds of the royal army followed Ly Thien Bao (the King’s brother) and Ly Phat Tu to retreat to Ha Tinh region. The second difficulty was fierce and consecutive attacks of Luong soldiers.

And he decided wisely, implementing the long-term plan to fight the enemy or guerrilla warfare/ long-term resistance war/ changing the weakness to the victory in the language of the modern army, Understanding the terrain of the homeland and assisted by the people, Trieu Quang Phuc secretly retreated to set up a new base in Da Trach (Khoai Chau, Hung Yen).

Da Trach is described in the history book as a vast swampy area with dense reeds, grass growing like forests. In the middle of Da Trach swamp, there is an alluvial ground where people can make a living. However, the access is very difficult, so it is also a very hidden place. The only means to get access to the alluvial ground is the light canoe turning the reeds to enter.

Trieu Quang Phuc summoned more than 2 million troops to the land in the middle of the swamp, and soldiers took turns practicing and working for self-supply. During the day time, the troops turn off any smoke, and kept silent. At night, they used wooden canoes to fight the enemy. This sudden attack helped Trieu Quang Phuc's army to drain the life force of the enemy, collect more weapons and accumulate more food. People in the country called Trieu Quang Phuc as Da Trach Vuong (King of Da Trach swamp).

Meanwhile, in 548, Ly Nam De died in Cheat Lao cave. Trieu Quang Phuc proclaimed himself as Trieu Viet Vuong.

From Da Trach base, the war between us and the enemy lasted for 4 years. In 550, the opportunity came. At that time, Luong's situation was in trouble. A part of the troops withdrew to the country and left the troops led by General Duong San. Trieu Viet Vuong took the opportunity to launch a series of attacks on the Luong army, killing the commander of the enemy. Van Xuan country turned to peace.

In 557, Ly Phat Tu, who was Ly Nam De’s relative and previously lost the battle, now brought troops to fight Trieu Viet Vuong to take the throne. After a while, knowing that he could not win, Ly Phat Tu asked for reconciliation.

However, Ly Phat Tu still sought for revenge. He would like to arrange the marriage between Trieu Viet Vuong’s daughter and his son. Taking advantage of Trieu Viet Vuong's distraction, Ly Phat Tu brought his troops to ambush Trieu Viet Vuong’s army. Trieu Viet Vuong lose the fight and because there was no way out, he jumped into the sea to suicide. He ruled Van Xuan for 23 years

Currently, Hoa temple in Da Trach commune (Khoai Chau district) worships not only Chu Dong Tu - Tien Dung but also the famous celebrity Trieu Quang Phuc. About 2 kilometers from Hoa temple, it is Trieu Viet Vuong temple in An Vi commune (Khoai Chau district). Every year, on August 12 on the lunar calendar when it is said that Trieu Quang Phuc initiated the fight against the enemy, the people hold festivals to commemorate him.

In 2017, Hung Yen approved the Investment Project to build and renovate Trieu Viet Vuong’s temple. The project is built on an area of ​​more than 13.7 thousand square meters in Da Trach commune, with a total budget of nearly VND 45 billion.
