On February 15 (On January 11, 2019 in lunar calendar), an incense offering ceremony was held to commemorate the 744th anniversary of the day of General Pham Ngu Lao beginning the fight against the enemy to protect the country and start Phu Ung temple festival in the cultural and historical relic of Phu Ung temple, Phu Ung commune (An Thi)....

The ceremony witnessed the participation of Mr. Do Tien Sy, Member of the Party Central Committee, Provincial Party Secretary, Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly; Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, members of the Provincial Standing Committee; leaders of a number of departments, agencies, provincial socio-political organizations, districts and city along with numerous people and tourists.

At the incense offering ceremony, delegates, people and tourists reviewed the history of the life and career of General Pham Ngu Lao. He was Phu Ung villager and grew up while people of the whole country were preparing to fight against Nguyen - Mong invaders for the second time. He was willing to take part in the fight against the enemy and discovered and recommended by Tran Quoc Tuan. He became a talented General, contributing greatly to the victory of the resistance against invaders and nation protection. After his death, he was appointed as the God by the King and a temple on the old house of his family was built to worship him by Phu Ung villagers. In 1988, Phu Ung temple worshipping General Pham Ngu Lao was recognized as a national cultural-historical relic. 

Every year, the traditional festival of Phu Ung temple is solemnly held from 11 to 13 January, attracting a large number of people in the province and tourists, one of the major festivals in cultural activities and spring festival of Hung Yen province. This year, after the traditional solemn ceremony, the festival comes with cultural and sports activities such as puppet dance, “van” singing, Trong Quan singing, love singing, Chinese chess, wrestling, lion dance, dragon dance...

Phu Ung temple festival brings a deep cultural value. It is not only an opportunity to commemorate the merits of General Pham Ngu Lao but also educate the young generation about the patriotism, will power and long-time culture of the nation.
