Reporting to the Prime Minister at the meeting, Mr. Thuan Huu said that Vietnam Journalist Association is a socio-political professional organization of Vietnam journalists, having a strict and systematic organization system from the central office to local offices. In the part 69 years, since its foundation (April 21, 1950 - April 21, 2016), Vietnam Journalist Association and the press in the whole country have always received the attention, leadership and direction of the Party and the State, constantly strived to make the important contribution to the revolutionary cause. Vietnam Journalist Association currently has more than 24,000 members who are journalists working at directing and managing press agencies and the press agencies of the Central and local region and be active at 63 journalist Associations in provinces and cities. Over the past years, the Association has always received comprehensive attention from the Party and the State. The Party and the Government have issued multiple guiding documents, mechanisms and policies to help Vietnam Journalists Association operate more effectively.

At the meeting, head of Vietnam Journalist Association, news agencies, and press have asked the Government and the Prime Minister for solutions to improve the operational efficiency of press agencies.
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his warm regards to the team of journalists on the 94th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. The Prime Minister acknowledged that the press has accompanied the country, adhered to the Party's orientation in propaganda, actively reported and reflected vividly every aspect of the country's economy, culture and social life. Journalists are in the front against corruption, negativity and waste. The press has contributed positively to the victory of 2018 and the first six months of 2019 of the country.
The Prime Minister also understood difficulties that many delegates raised at the working session. Most newspapers have to be self-reliant and striving on the market. Amid the competition with social networks, the advertising market share on newspapers has decreased. In the society, among the people, multiple people do not distinguish between social networks and newspapers and consider the news on social networks as journalism information, including fake news. The financial policy of the press has limitations, which should be further considered in order that the press to contribute more to the revolutionary cause of the country.
A number of press agencies have not promoted their advantages in information orientation. In some cases, they let social networks dominate, pursue information on social network without verification, leading to pitiful mistakes. There are still two-faced journalists who show negative views on social network.
The Prime Minister reiterated the initial value of the Revolutionary Press. If the press want to go on, it must return to 94 years ago when the Revolutionary Press was born to find their core values. It was revolutionary and pioneering. The Prime Minister proposed the press to take the lead in major issues, new problems of the country and the Party, and protection of the foundations of our regime.
The Prime Minister proposed, first of all, the Revolutionary Press must show the main flow of our society. "What is that main flow?" The Prime Minister pointed out that it was to build and protect the socialist regime; build a country of rich people, a strong nation, fair, democratic and civilized society; build an autonomous economy and preserve culture. “Doi Moi” of the country is changing Vietnam day by day, with high growth rate, human life being improved. It is Vietnam growing from poverty, hunger, and slow development to a middle-income country with its international position constantly improving.
The press of our country must honestly reflect that main flow, and not allow the negative side to become the mainstream on the newspaper, the Prime Minister stressed. The revolutionary achievements of our people, our country, and our Party are very great and we must affirm that the press must report clearly for our people party members and officials to understand and trust in the revolutionary career of our Party. “Losing faith is losing everything. We want to affirm our belief in the Party's guideline in the revolutionary cause of the nation, especially in the cause of innovation, the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister suggested that the press should create and nurture the prosperity and strength of the nation. For that reason, the press and the media in general have to create consensus and greater social trust in the revolutionary cause of the Party.
The press has to apply more technology, even at the forefront of applying new technology because it is technology that will help the press solve its problems, especially problem in information competition. According to the Prime Minister, in 2019, the Government will announce the national digital transformation, including digital transformation in the field of journalism. The major task of Vietnam Journalist Association and newspapers is to carry out the press planning. Planning will help press to develop sustainably. The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Information and Communications to focus on implementing the plan, and at the same time the Ministry and the Vietnam Journalist Association would coordinate to solve the arising problems when implementing the plan.
In response to specific recommendations of the Journalist Association, the Prime Minister stated that the Government would create a new mechanism for journalism to develop. Autonomy of the press must be understood in the sense that which can be autonomous must be autonomous even more; which ones need to order and need the support of the State, then the State would pay more attention. "The state will take care along with comrades". The Government would pay more attention to journalism training, which will facilitate the formation of a number of large-scale press agencies which lead the Vietnamese press. Regarding technology for the press, the Government will also support.
