Although no one in his family followed the profession, because he loved it, Mr. Dang Van Hieu (born in 1993) in Dai Tu village, Dai Dong commune (Van Lam) chose wood carving to start his business. At the age of 20, he went to Hai Duong province to learn a trade. Once he was proficient in the profession and had capital, he decided to return to his hometown to invest in purchasing equipment and opening a fine art carpentry workshop. The workshop is small, without many machines or equipment, but the works he creates make viewers admire him. With skillful hands, creativity and a burning passion for the art of wood carving, Mr. Hieu has crafted unique wooden products with high artistic value. Mr. Hieu said: It is also an artifact made of wood, but wood carving is different from civil carpentry in that wood carving requires perseverance, ingenuity, creativity and is more artistic. Beautiful works must have soul, expressed through every line and detail. I'm happy to be able to "let my soul" into pieces of wood and freely create works of my own choice.
Over the past 10 years, Mr. Hieu has created thousands of wood sculptures with themes close to farmers such as: Crabs, ants, fish, mantises, snails, clouds, mountains... Each product His works always have unique touches, conveying different content and meanings. Thanks to that, the product is loved by many people and ordered at prices ranging from a few million VND to hundreds of millions of VND.
Participating in this year's Vietnam Handicraft Products Contest, he brought the work "Vietnamese Pride". He completed the work in 3 months from the idea to drawing the model on paper and executing it on wood. Wood carver Vu Van Hoan, Hoa Phong commune (My Hao town)
Born in 1984 in a family with a tradition of carpentry, from a young age, Mr. Hoan learned how to hold a saw and a chisel to make wooden products. As he grew older, he became more and more passionate about artistic wood carving and in 2017, he opened a workshop.
Mr. Hoan said: The process to create a wood sculpture goes through many stages. First, the craftsman must come up with ideas, arrange and arrange the patterns and details according to the customer's requirements to choose the appropriate wood blank; Next is the process of breaking the rough, shaping, replacing the product and then making it sharp and perfect, perfecting the product. Most steps are done manually. Depending on each wood carving product, the price ranges from 10 million VND to over 100 million VND.
For the work "Homeland" participating in this year's Vietnam Handicraft Products Contest, it took him about 1 month to complete. Earlier this year, his product set "Living sprouts, rice plants, pen flower vases, food for the future" was also voted as a typical rural industrial product at the provincial level.
