In 2018, the total agricultural production value of the whole country increased by 3.86% as compared to 2017, of which agriculture increased by 2.91%, forestry rose by 6.09%, fishery increased by 6.5%; GDP of agriculture, forestry and fishery rose by 3.76%, reaching the highest growth rate in the last 7 years. The forest coverage reached 41.65%; the rate of communes meeting new rural standards was over 42.4%, the export turnover is estimated to attain at over 40 billion USD. 

The consumer market continues to be expanded both in industry and product, focusing on the domestic market and removing trade and export barriers. The production forms continue to be renewed and developed in both quantity and quality and step by step improving the operational efficiency. The science and technology, especially high technology, are transferred and applied into agricultural production more and more, contributing to improving production value and the efficiency of agricultural production. The management of quality of agricultural materials and food safety of farm produce has been strengthened. The public investment capital is strictly managed; the disbursement rate is high; the agricultural and rural infrastructure continues to be upgraded. The irrigation management and natural disaster prevention continue to be enhanced. The international cooperation is strongly carried out, especially in negotiating and implementing signed agreements and commitments. The institutional and policy development is considered as a key task; the industry management system is completed together with promoting administrative reforms so the management efficiency continues to be improved...

In 2019, the Agriculture and Rural Development sector strives to achieve the GDP growth rate of over 3%; export turnover of about 42 - 43 billion USD; 48-50% of communes and 70 units at district level meet new rural standards; the forest coverage is over 41.85%. To achieve this goal, to continue to promote the restructuring of the industry, improve productivity and quality of farm produce and the production and business efficiency, strive to exceed the growth target of the year at the highest level. To strongly develop domestic and export markets for agricultural products. To focus on effectively implementing the national target program on new rural area construction.
