More than half a century has passed since the war, yet the aftermath of Agent Orange/dioxin continues to haunt many families in Hung Yen Province, inflicting the pain of illness and material hardship. Many Agent Orange victims and their descendants are still living in severely dilapidated houses. Understanding these great losses, Hung Yen Province has implemented numerous solutions and mobilized resources to help Agent Orange victims have safe homes, enabling them to gradually overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

The house of Nguyen Van Huu's family in Cong Luan village (Van Giang commune) is being completed.
Returning from the Quang Tri battlefield and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 with the aftereffects of toxic chemicals, Nguyen Van Huu of Cong Luan village (Van Giang commune) has suffered a marked decline in health. For many years, his whole family had to live in a dilapidated single-storey house. With a meager income relying mainly on a monthly allowance, the dream of a solid, spacious house seemed out of reach for him. Joy came to his family when they received VND 80 million in support from the Provincial Fund for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims. Together with contributions from relatives, his family was able to build a new house. After more than four months of construction, the house is expected to be completed in early September 2026. Standing in front of the house as it takes shape, Huu shared: "I never thought my family could own such a spacious house as we do now, and I am deeply grateful for the timely care of the Party and the State."

The joy of a settled home has also come to the family of Nguyen Van Quynh in Dong An village (Nam Tien Hung commune). Quynh is a second-generation Agent Orange victim who is paralyzed on one side of his body; his father fought on the battlefields of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. Quynh lives with his elderly mother in a small house built nearly 50 years ago, which has become severely dilapidated. Thanks to VND 60 million in support from the Provincial Fund for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims, combined with help from his extended family and additional loans, his family is building a new 36 m2 house with a total value of nearly VND 300 million. Quynh said: "Thanks to this support and the extra money I borrowed, I have been able to build a new house. Now, my worries every time the rainy and stormy season comes have been lifted."
Over the years, alongside fully and promptly implementing the Party's and State's preferential policies for Agent Orange victims, the province has always mobilized the concerted engagement of the entire political system and promoted the tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance to provide comprehensive care for Agent Orange victims in both their material and spiritual lives.

Since the beginning of the year, the Provincial Fund for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims has supported the construction of three charity houses with a total cost of more than VND 240 million, while the provincial Fund for the Protection of Victims of Agent Orange Caused by the War in Vietnam has provided funding to build houses for two victims with a total of VND 160 million. According to a recent review, about 100 members of the Hung Yen Provincial Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims are still in difficult circumstances and need housing support.
Pham Le Binh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hung Yen Provincial Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims, said: "To continue easing the pain of Agent Orange in the new period, associations at all levels greatly need the attention, leadership and direction of Party committees and Party organizations to mobilize the combined strength of the entire political system, together with support from businesses and philanthropists for people with meritorious services to the revolution in general and Agent Orange victims in particular. This will help spread the spirit of mutual assistance and give struggling families more motivation to rise up in life."
