The orange garden of Mr. Pham Van Vinh's family, Lam Son ward (Hung Yen city)
Established in 2017, currently, the Dong Thanh cooperative producing vegetables, fruits and commercial services, Dong Thanh commune has 30 members with a total area of 30 hectares of oranges. Since the establishment of the cooperative, households have been organized into groups by villages, shared experiences, supported capital, gradually building a brand of quality assurance in the direction of VietGAP, expanding production development according to concentrated area. The market is expanded to many provinces and cities in the country such as: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Binh... In addition, to expand the brand, the cooperative actively participates in agricultural fairs to introduce Dong Thanh orange products. According to the assessment of households involved in orange production according to VietGAP process in the commune, productivity has increased by 10-15% as compared to traditional production methods, the product is guaranteed in quality and design, so it is consumed favorably, economic value is higher than that of households not participating in the model.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung from Cong Luan village, Dong Thanh commune said: In 2018, my family participated in the model of intensive orange cultivation according to VietGAP process. Accordingly, in the process of taking care of plants, my family applies scientific and technical measures, uses organic fertilizers, uses bio-lights to trap harmful insects, and uses biological protective drugs to fertilize, prevent pests and diseases for plants. Products are sold to the market to ensure safety for customers to use. This year, my family is expected to harvest about 10 tons of oranges of all kinds, the selling price of Hung Yen oranges at the beginning of the crop is 25,000 VND/kg.
Lam Son ward (Hung Yen city) currently has an area of over 40ha of oranges, of which the area of oranges produced under VietGAP process is 15ha. At this time, people are pruning thick fruit bunches, using biological measures to limit the destruction of harmful organisms such as bees, yellow flies... ready to harvest oranges. Mr. Pham Van Vinh, Kim Dang civil group said: My family has over 2 acres of VietGAP certified oranges. During the care process, my family pays attention to the important growth periods on the tree such as flowering, fruiting, and post-harvest periods to take measures to add appropriate nutrients to make the tree always strong. This year, my family's orange production is about 10 tons. With delicious quality, now, my family's oranges are ordered by traders coming to the garden for 30,000 VND/kg, 2 times higher than the same period last year.
According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has about 1,970 hectares of orange area, mainly in the districts of Van Giang, Kim Dong, Khoai Chau, Phu Cu, Yen My and Hung Yen city. In which, the planting area according to VietGAP process is over 500ha. This year, the province's orange output has reached over 35.95 thousand tons.
Over the past time, the implementation of orange production according to VietGAP process has brought about positive effects, which are: delicious quality, food safety and hygiene, stable productivity, high price, good consumption in the market, bringing high economic efficiency to the people. The production according to VietGAP standards is the right and effective direction, improving the prestige, quality and brand of Hung Yen oranges.
With these results, the model of orange cultivation according to VietGAP standards is a suitable direction and continues to be replicated and promoted. These are the leading factors that determine the effectiveness of the sustainable development of orange trees in Hung Yen.
