Early-ripening longan growing brings high economic efficiency in Lac Dao commune (Tien Lu district)

This is the third year Mr. Duong Van Dung's family in Kim Dong commune (Kim Dong district) has applied the science and technology to manipulate 50 early-ripening longan trees. From the middle of April, he offered ripe longan to sell. The yield was expected at 1 tonnes. Compared to the main-season longan, in order to push the longan to flower and fruit earlier, it's necessary to follow strictly the care process which is time-consuming and at the right time.

His family sold 5 quintals of early-ripening longan with the selling price roughly at VND 50,000 to 60,000 per kilo. He shared: 'In order to manipulate early flowering and fruiting and produce high-quality fruit, along with the weather factor come the high skilled growing techniques, understanding of each breed and health of each tree, and application of advanced science, changes in caring process, limitation of pesticides'.

Thanks to dominant economic efficiency, advantages in consumption, the early-ripening longan is grown in many gardens and collectives throughout the province. The province has over 5,000 hectares of longan, of which the early-ripening longan occupies 7% mostly in districts of Kim Dong, Tien Lu, Phu Cu, and Hung Yen city. The longan breeding applied the technology of lowering manipulation is Huong Chi and T6. Nhat Tan citrus fruit collective harvests 5 tonnes of early-ripening longan with the selling price of VND 40,000 to 50,000 per kilo. Some garden members of the collective can produce large volume of early-ripening longan are Pham Nhu Manh garden, Nguyen Vu Hieu garden.

In order to underscore the value and quality of Hung Yen longan on the market, the provincial agriculture and rural development sector promotes the propaganda about the precise production process, avoidance of pesticides outside the list. Farmers can apply the techniques skillfully to get trees to flower and fruit as desired. To stay proactive in consumption of longan, the Department of Industry and Trade built programs and plans for trade promotion to accelerate promotion, connection of longan consumption with big enterprises and supermarkets in the provinces and cities of Hanoi and Quang Ninh. Some events are noticeably held such as the Hung Yen longan promotion and consumption fair 2023; Hung Yen longan festival, Longan- Hung Yen typical ago-product week 2023 in Hanoi, Quang Ninh.

Ms. Tran Thi Hong Hanh, deputy director of the department of the industry and trade said: 'The connection doesn’t limit to the concentrated events but occurs regularly throughout the year. In 2022, the department invited enterprises to the longan areas to do survey on consumption in the domestic market and for export. Thus, the early-ripening longan harvest in the province this year would be easily consumed at high price. Many enterprises come to the garden and sign the consumption contract. Gardeners should actively tend longan trees and ensure the quarantine time before harvesting and only pick high quality fruit'.
