Da Quang village, Di Che commune (Tien Lu district) has been long famous for bamboo blind making. In 2016, the village was recognized as the traditional craft village. Over the years, while there have been many fluctuations, ups and downs, the craft village is still maintained, creating jobs for farmers in their free time and bringing in incomes to residents...
Visiting Da Quang village and strolling around, we saw images of industrious women weaving shades; the sound of the bamboo splitting machine echoed across the village; the completing shades are being dried on the yards. There are over 100 households maintaining this profession. According to the craftsmen, in order to weave a solid and beautiful shade, they have to do many steps in which the material selection is the deciding factor. If the bamboo is not qualified, the final products are easy to get warped. Mr. Luong Van Mua-an owner of a blind production facility said: "Depending on shade dimensions, the craftsmen will buy old bamboos with appropriate lengths. After sawing bamboos into parts 2 meters or 3 meters long to the width of curtains, craftsmen will split them into thin strips. In order to produce a beautiful curtain, the strips must be split and sharpened evenly.

In order to meet the demand of the market, the craftsmen in the village learn about the models and make products to the demand of customers. While households mostly produced small-striped bamboo blinds hanging in front of the house, now they make the large-striped ones hanging under the porch to avoid sunshine.
In addition, from manual work, up to now, the majority of craft households have purchased machines for production. Currently, 100% of splitting work is done by machine; 20% of craft households invest in weaving machines. Thanks to that, labor productivity increases by 3 to 4 times, and product quality is also improved. The types of blinds produced have seen many improvements in styles and sizes, meeting the needs and tastes of consumers. Mr. An The Son, owner of a large blind manufacturing facility in the village, said: "Depending on customers' requirements, I produce PU-painted blinds or wooden blinds. Currently, my family has boldly invested in machines at all stages. Applying machines in production gives much higher productivity and quality than manual methods. On average, I sell more than 20,000 square meters of blinds each year"
The profession has helped many households in the village rise to wealth and have a good income. A number of households in the village have joined forces to purchase 100% of the products. Mr. Vu Van Minh said: "In addition to production, to ensure serving large orders, every month I also purchase 2000-3000 square meters of blinds from 5 blind-making households in the commune. On average, I sell over 20,000 square meters of blinds to the major market, specifically Central and Southern provinces. Currently, my family's production facility creates jobs for 15 workers, and the average profit per year reaches over VND 200 million".
Today, bamboo shade making in Da Quang village is creating regular jobs for 300 to 400 labors with the average income of VND 2mil to VND 4mil per capita per month. However, in recent years, the craft village is facing difficulties in product consumption. In order to maintain blind making profession, in the coming time, the commune will cooperate with levels and sectors to host training classes to improve people's skills to make products with more animated decorating patterns and details to lift aesthetic and economic values of shades; continue to support craft villages to focus on environmental hygiene during the production process
