Busy lychee harvesting season

In the harvesting season, Tam Da commune in Phu Cu district is bursting with big trucks of traders collecting lychees. Growers take advantages of the early morning and cool atmosphere to pluck lychees to ensure good quality and appearance.

Mr. Pham Van Quan in Tam Da village, Tam Da commune cultivated over 1.5 hectares of hybrid early-ripening lychee and now harvested 15% of the lychee area. Quan shared that lychee season this year was bumper and lychee selling price per kilo was VND 5,000 to VND 10,000 higher than the previous year. The whole commune is expected to harvest over 2.5 thousand tons of lychees (the output in 2021 was 1.5 thousand tons)

From May 20, lychee cultivating areas in Minh Tien commune come alive with people harvesting and buying lychees. Wholesalers from Hanoi city, Hai Phong city, from Thai Binh, Nam Dinh buy lychees right at the gardens. Growers are exhilarated by bumper lychee seasons with high selling price.

Nimbly arranging the red ripening lychees and tying into bunches for delivery, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, Phu Oanh village, Minh Tien commune happily shared: ' We have to mobilize the whole human source to harvest lychee to ensure good quality and appearance. The selling price is from VND 18,000 to VND 25,000 per kilo. Thanks to application of science and technology advances during the process of growing and caring, the hybrid lychee fruit is big and has no borers.

Boost promotion of early-ripening hybrid lychee consumption

The whole Phu Cu district has over 750 hectares of early-ripening hybrid lychee and over 80% of the area was harvested. The predicted output this year is 8,000 tons (the output in 2021 is 5,000 tons).

The favorable conditions of soil and atmosphere have given the early-ripening lychee trees in Phu Cu advantages, namely sooner harvesting time than the lychee main season by 2 to 3 weeks; nice and bright skin and light sweetness. Early-ripening lychee is granted the trademark certificate by Intellectual property office of Vietnam and ranked 3-star and 4-star OCOP3 product.

Farmers in Minh Tien commune are harvesting lychee

In the past time, in order to build the trademark of early-ripening hybrid lychee, Phu Cu district has focused on instructing farmers to produce Vietgap lychee and register OCOP products. Mr. Nguyen Kha Phuc, Chairman of the People's committee said: 'From the beginning May of 2022, the people's committee of the district has organized the conference on consumption of early-ripening lychee with the attendance of enterprises and companies and supermarkets. Before the lychee harvesting season, leaders of the people's committee worked with traders to connect the markets of lychee consumption. Now there are enterprises signing to consume over 1,000 tons of early-ripening hybrid lychees'.

The people's committee continues to accelerate trademark promotion of Phu Cu early-ripening hybrid lychee and Hung Yen egg lychee on the media; rein in the issues related to packages and labels of products. At the same time, the district also requested functional departments to instruct growers to comply with the production process in order to deliver safe and high quality Phu Cu early-ripening hybrid lychee and Hung Yen egg lychee to customers.
