Orange season in Tam Da

In Tam Da commune (Phu Cu district), the orange area is zoned in Ngu phuc village. This time, farmers are taking care of orange gardens and preparing for harvest. Ms. Dao Thi Thuy, member of Ngu Phuc agricultural collectives said that thanks to attention of local authorities who approve the conversion of inefficient rice area to others trees with  high economic value, her family has grown oranges for 9 years now. This time is the beginning of harvest season of Vinh oranges which prices and productivity are predicted to be stable as the previous year. In 2018, her family harvested 8 tons of oranges of all kinds, yielding the revenue of over VND 100 million. After deducting all expenses, she earned the income of VND 70 million and created jobs for 2 family members. In 2018, Ngu Phuc agricultural collectives was established. Her family joined the collectives to learn about the experiences and efficient manufacturing methods to produce good products, ensure safety to users and contribute to promoting the trademark to local agri-products.Trao đổi kinh nghiệm chăm sóc cam chuẩn bị thu hoạch

Sharing experiences of taking care of oranges to prepare for harvest.

Mr. Tran Van Binh, Chairman of the Management Board, Director of Ngu Phuc agricultural collectives said that Tam Da already made the planning of areas for growing oranges of 51 hectares, in which 21.6 hectares are processed under Vietgap. Farmers choose orange varieties suitable with the weather condition and the type of local land, in which there were 7 hectares of Vinh oranges. The commune has 144 households growing oranges. Ngu Phuc agricultural collectives itself has 48 households with the total area of 18 hectares. The collectives cooperated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural development to hold 01 training class to convey the orange production method towards Vietgap to ensure food safety. In addition, the collectives also open a production support fund of VND 48 million to lend 2 members living in difficulties and having the demand of loans for production and investment. Each borrowing term is 1 year, then circulated to people in need. Along production support, the collectives is active in looking for consumption source, making it convenient to send products to agri-product fairs and supermarkets in order to promote and introduction of products. Products of members of the collectives have been recognized as Vietgap standards since 2018. In 2018, the total orange output was 836 tons, in which 283 tons were Vinh oranges. This year, due to unfavorable weather condition, Bo Ha orange and Duong Canh oranges are affected. As a results, total output of oranges only reaches 550 tons; however, the output and price of Vinh oranges are still stable as the previous year and estimated to generate considerable income to farmers.

Ngu Phuc agricultural collectives is assisted 60 thousand origin traceability stamps for oranges by the Department of Agriculture and Rural development and the Department of Industry and Trade. The collectives also produce the bags printed the logo of the collectives to distribute to members in the process of packing, consumption and promotion. In addition, members of the collectives in particular and orange growers in Tam Da in general need attention and support of authorities and sectors to give facilities from production step to consumption in order to make farmers feel secure about production and produce high quality output meeting food safety standards.
