Pham Ngu Lao is a martial arts literature master and especially trusted by Commander In Chief Tran Hung Dao. He was the General in 3 King generations of Tran dynasty who made great deeds in the invader resistance and protection of Western and Eastern borders.
After he died, Pham Ngu Lao was conferred the title "The Goddess", which is literally called “Thuong đang phuc than”, and worshiped by Phu Ung residents in a temple built right on the old ground of his family. In 1988, Phu Ung temple which worships Pham Ngu Lao was recognized as the national level historical and cultural site.
Traditional Phu Ung temple festival is held annually from January 11 to January 13 on the lunar calendar, attracting a wide range of provincial residents and tourists, and becoming one of the major festivals of spring and cultural activities in the province.
This year, during the festival days, after the solemn worship and rituals, it also includes a great deal of traditional games and cultural and sporty activities such as: Chinese chess, cockfight, puppetry, tug of war, Quan ho singing, spring calligraphy artworks, wrestling, which attract a lot of visitors to see and participate.
