Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's real name is Nguyen Van Cuc, born on July 1, 1915, from Yen Phu village, Giai Pham commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province. Nearly 70 years of participating in revolutionary activities and serving the Party, including 2 times and 10 years of being imprisoned by the colonial government in Con Dao hell on earth. Most of the time, revolutionary activities were closely linked with soldiers and Southern compatriots in the cause of liberating the South and unifying the country. He is one of the few officials who has participated in activities across three regions of the country, held many key positions in the Party from the grassroots to the highest levels and made great contributions in challenging times challenge. He devoted his whole life to the Party's glorious revolution and left many marks with important contributions in the development history of the Vietnamese revolution.
In 1986, at the 6th Party Congress (1986-1991), he was elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the person with the greatest merits, the first person to initiate the cause renew. The monument of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh was inaugurated on April 27, 2015.
Located in the campus of Nguyen Van Linh Square, Hung Yen City with an area of 2 hectares, on a granite yard, carved from Thanh Hoa green stone with a height of 8.1m, the statue's pedestal is 4.2m high, the base is 1.25m high, facing south. The statue reminds of the image of comrade Nguyen Van Linh when he visited his hometown of Hung Yen and talked with officials and people of Hung Yen after the country was completely unified. The statue is in a standing position, exuding steadfast beauty and wisdom, but very simple and close. In particular, the two arms, one hangs comfortably, the hand holds lightly, the other slightly lifts, the hand opens moderately in a very flexible, proactive and determined position. The face looks straight and calm, but still seems to contain thoughts about the country and the times in a turbulent historical period.
This place is also a beautiful and solemn place to organize collective activities and major holidays of the province, as well as a meaningful place for sightseeing, entertainment and learning for the people of Hung Yen.
