Since the 90s of the previous century, local authorities and economy enthusiasts bring this job to the village. At first, there were households in Kenh Ha manufacturing items for daily life. Now bamboo and rattan job has been widespread in Lien Khe and become a daily work of locals....
This job makes use of free farming labor force. The number of employees is increasingly larger together with higher quality and stable consumption. With the rapid growth, in 2004, bamboo and rattan business was acknowledged as the craft village called ‘Lien Khe bamboo and rattan weaving village’.
Bamboo and rattan knitted products are exported to such countries as Japan, Korean, the US and highly valued in terms of aesthetic and application with over 100 models such as food tray, umbrella container, racks, vase, pot, picture frame.
Rattan is the key material used by Lien Khe craftsmen. They only purchase the processed materials. It is transferred from Central Vietnam and surrounding provinces such as Thai Binh.
Like other craft villages in the country, a finished product undergoes basic steps including selecting materials and weaving products requested by customers. Once they are finished, products are gathered to the collective where people take final steps such as applying adhesive, drying up and painting.
Shaping the products is the hardest step and often handled by experienced artisans who have aesthetic competency to make beautiful designs. Each product has its own weaving type that is distinct in gaps among stitches. Beautiful products with complicated designs, close weaving and nice stitches are made meticulously.
In April, 2015, Le Khe bamboo and rattan export collective was founded under centralization. The collective has made a great contribution in improving skills and income for employees as well as expanding consumption market and creating more jobs. While a number of craft villages shut down their business amid the difficult situation of consumption market, Lien Khe village still stays and thrives thanks to people rapidly catching up with the market’s expectations and publicizing the products well.
Lien Khe bamboo and rattan products, with their simplicity and sophistication, are increasingly popular in decoration of interior spaces that are permeated with Vietnamese culture. Lien Khe people are active and hardworking to create new product models. Lien Khe craft village is thriving and making a great contribution to the general economic development of the local area.
Realizing the importance of raising quality and aesthetic of products, people find that checking models and quality is essential. Regardless of ordinary products or high qualified products, craftsmen do research and check the finished products seriously. The craftsmen expect that the products coming to the end-users must be qualified and meet customers’ expectations. That is the way to keep the prestige of the craft village.
With the sustainable development vision, artisans also seek new models to apply into manufacturing process, update new designs, do more research to get new know how and experience in order to make new innovation and improvement as well as meet customers’ expectations. Lien Khe bamboo and rattan products come to the likeness of international tourists. The orders are getting more and increasing in quantity and models.
