In addition to worshiping Buddha, the pagoda is also a place to worship the spirit of Queen Mother Y Lan - a noble woman, wife of King Ly Thanh Tong. Ỷ Lan is famous for being a beautiful woman, good at domestic work and admired and loved by many courtiers and people.

The pagoda was built by Queen Mother Ỷ Lan during the Ly Dynasty (1115) on a large scale. Due to changes in history and time, the temple has been repaired many times. Currently, the relic has a Tam-style architecture including: 7 Dai Bai compartments, the altar is created in the style of stacking dou ke fields. The front hall has 7 compartments, the pillars are made of ironwood in the style of husband and wife fighting lotus with four rows of pillars. All columns are placed on stone bases decorated with lotus petal patterns, in the style of the Ly Dynasty. The upper palace has 3 compartments, match-style architecture with 2 floors and 8 roofs.
 
The pagoda has two relics that have been recognized as National Treasures: the pedestal of the stone lion statue and the system of stone steps. It can be said that these two relics are works of art that demonstrate the great wisdom of Ly Dynasty stone sculptors.

According to cultural heritage researchers, the pedestal of the stone lion statue was created quite early in the late 11th and early 12th centuries from sandstone, meticulously and delicately carved. To date, this is the largest stone lion sculpture in Vietnam during the Ly Dynasty. The entire pedestal of the lion statue is 280cm long, 350m wide, 175cm high, and consists of three floors: base, body and surface.

The stone steps system of Huong Lang Pagoda includes 6 sets of stone steps carved in the shape of a stone crocodile facing forward, arranged at the entrance and exit of the pagoda, made of sandstone, square trapezoidal, carved in one piece. exquisitely engraved. This is a unique original artifact, with a unique form of expression, and has typical and unique historical, cultural, and artistic value. Currently, Huong Lang Pagoda is the only pagoda in the country that has a relatively intact, most complete and largest number of Ly Dynasty stone steps that no other relic can compare to.
 
Besides, there are many stone pillars carved with lotus petals and chrysanthemums that are very meticulous and sophisticated. These are priceless works of the Ly Dynasty that are still preserved.
 
With its cultural - historical, architectural and artistic values, the pagoda was ranked as a National "Artistic Architecture" relic in 1974. This place is an attractive sightseeing and research destination for tourists traveler.
