Delegates attend the conference at the Hung Yen destination
At the conference, the delegates heard the history and significance for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management; the impacts of climate change and natural disasters that have been taking place globally and in Vietnam, and the solutions for adaptation and mitigation to minimize negative impacts of natural disasters to human life, production and health.
With the theme "Cooperation to overcome dual challenges", Vietnam wants to emphasize that the world in general and the ASEAN region in particular are currently facing the Covid-19 pandemic and complicated and extreme developments of disasters on a global scale. Therefore, it is necessary to have appropriate solutions, of which the most important and decisive is cooperation.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Head of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control emphasized the impact and mutual influence among countries and territories when the risks of disaster occur. Therefore, "Cooperation to overcome dual challenges" is Vietnam's point of view to build solidarity, create common strength and also the key to help countries overcome the epidemic and risk.
Regarding responsibility in disaster management, Vietnam has always been a country that actively shares experiences at forums of the ASEAN Committee on reducing risks and damage caused by natural disasters, at the same time actively coordinating with countries around the world, closely working with ASEAN member states to develop the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response Work Program for the 2021-2025 period.
On this occasion, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control launched the Central Disaster Prevention and Control Fund. At the same time, organizations and individuals that have made great contributions to the prevention, control and overcoming of consequences of natural disasters in 2020 in Vietnam have been honored.
